All of the equipment used on guided single-day tours is first-class outdoor equipment from trusted brands. We bring all necessary gear and equipment to and from the tour location, making it easy and simple for each participant to enjoy their activity without added concern for transporting gear. Equipment is always cleaned and inspected after each tour to keep our fleet safe and operating smoothly.
On kayaking tours we frequently use kayaks from Wilderness Systems, though we may include other brands in the fleet, as well as other equipment from the REI Co-op brand.
On guided tours, guides carry first-aid supplies, are certified in both CPR and first-aid, and are trained in the area where the tour is offered.
Education & Inspiration
On a guided tour, participants can expect to have a wide range of outdoor questions answered. Throughout the experience, guides share their knowledge about the San Francisco Bay Area, focusing on nature, history and wildlife. We are firm believers that education is foremost in appreciating and preserving wild spaces. Aquatic and land animal sightings are common on guided tours and always provide an opportunity to discuss natural habits, adaptations, the relationship between urban and nature, and even preservation of local wildlife. Experiencing San Francisco with a guide is fun and entertaining while also offering a unique local perspective on the outdoor landscape of northern California.
Difficulty Level of Tours
We offer single-day tours in a range of difficulty to accommodate guests of varying interests and fitness. We work hard to place individual parties together with others of similar experience level and fitness expectations so that all participants are satisfied and safe. Our guides often design the activity for each tour around the group itself, so no tour is ever exactly the same as another.
All tours can also be reserved as private tours for your party only, for an additional fee.
If you have any questions about the difficulty of a particular activity, please give us a call to discuss your concerns.
Hundreds of years of human and ecological history go unnoticed by visitors each and every year. Did you know Marin county is considered the birthplace of mountain biking? Or that one of the world’s most beautiful estuaries is located just outside the Bay Area, and it’s also a vital pupping location for harbor seals. The city is so full of urban spectacles that it’s easy to enjoy an entire vacation without stepping foot into the great outdoors. But those who venture out of the concrete jungle are rewarded with scenic views and wildlife unique to this stretch of coastline. When you enjoy a guided experience of the Bay Area with REI, you book an opportunity to understand the importance of such unique wild spaces located just outside or bustling urban hotspots.
